Our Vision form Calvary Chapel Devine

Son, Salt & Light

Before prepping , preparing and planting the church God has placed on my heart three words "Son, Salt and Light."  I began to study  this further in the bible and it was something that became a clear direction for the church body and myself to live out in Devine. Meaning Know & Grow in the Son "Jesus", and be the Salt & Light in this very community that God has placed us in. My notes on this are below and YouTube or Facebook you can watch, or listen to the teachings on each of this subjects.
Pastor Michael Petit
Calvary Chapel Devine · "Son, Salt, & Light."

Son (Know the Son, Jesus) Having a relationship with Jesus.
Do you believe in your heart that He is risen, that He died for your sins and is alive? And you make a simple confession with your mouth: “Jesus is my Lord. I am going on record verbally. I believe in my heart internally that He died for my sins; He’s risen; and He’s my Lord.”
Do you know the Son?
1 Corinthians 15:3-5 NKJV For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, [4] and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, [5] and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.
Christ died for our sins, who is a sinner?
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. What is the penalty for sin?
Romans 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Can I earn my forgiveness of sin? No,
1 Peter 2:24 NKJV who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins,
might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Romans 10:13 NKJV For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

To receive Christ, a person needs to do 4 things:
1.  Admit you are a sinner.
2. Ask forgiveness and be willing to turn away from your sins.
3. Believe that Christ died for you on the cross.
4. Receive Christ into your heart and life.

Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the
mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Sinners Prayer
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and
rose from the dead. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and be my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to
do your will. In Jesus, amen.”
What’s Next? To know the Son, be the Salt and the Light.

Why Salt?
Leviticus 2:13 And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt;
you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering.
With all your offerings you shall offer salt. Salt is here used to symbolize God’s covenant with His people. Just as salt is necessary to sustain life, so is God’s continual relationship with us necessary to sustain and enjoy life everlasting.
Understanding that is not a religious activity or religion but a relationship with Christ. Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?
It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Salt (Be the Salt)
Salt had two purposes in the time of Jesus one it was used to preserve, and it was an enhancer.
Salt as enhancer and people would thirst for it.
Salt promotes thirst, and as the salt of the earth, we should be making those around us thirsty for the living water of Jesus Christ. That means Acts 2:42 ministry we should practically and through application live for Jesus being the salt that people crave and thirst around us. But also, as believers we are to be preservatives. We know we live in a culture today is rotting and decaying, we are to be the salt and as church hold off that decay in Devine, Texas.

Share the Gospel seasoned with salt.
Colossians 4:5-6 NKJV Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.[6] Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you
ought to answer each one.
Do not waste opportunities to share the gospel season it with salt. A follower of Christ speech should act not only as a blessing to others, but as a purifying influence within the decaying culture.
Salt promotes peace with one another
Mark 9:50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves and be at peace with one another.” We are to be like salt in promoting peace among fellow believers. This demonstrates the preserving power of God.

Salt needs to maintain saltiness.
Luke 14:34–35 “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? 35 It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” The saltiness of salt is what makes it salt! Likewise, unless a Christian is willing to endure the costly nature of being a disciple—which is an integral part of being one—he is useless to the kingdom of God Dying to self and picking up your cross daily.
Be the Light.
God intends for His children to be the light in this dark world, shining the way to spiritual safety for the lost. You should be a walking talking billboard for the Lord but one of those new LED billboards that shines in the day or night for Christ. Jesus said “I am the Light”; John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”
God is Light.
1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. He who does Truth comes to the Light John 3:18-21 NKJV “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. [21] But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.” Those who love darkness rather than the light, so that they can try (in vain) to hide their sinful deeds (3:19-20), will experience eternal judgment for rejecting the free gift of God. Those who receive the truth and live in accordance with it come to the light (to Jesus) to show that their good works have been accomplished by God (3:21). Unbelievers are responsible for their evil deeds, but believers know that God gets the glory for their good ones.

We are Children of Light
Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness,
but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.
We put off the culture and the world and let us
put on the armor of light.

Are you Hiding the Light?
Matthew 5:14-16  “You are the light of the world.
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Jesus expects his followers to be lights too.
How does your faith cause you to
 behave differently from anyone else?
We are not to be secret agent saints.
Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness,
and let us put on the armor of light. We put the
protective covering of a Holy Life and we
put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

What's Next?

One thing I have seen over the years is many new and
old followers struggle in their relationship with Christ which
causes them to struggle growing. My Senior Pastor Joe Marquez
one Sunday shared this acronym on "Growth" and
it was simple and easy to do. Honestly if your not sure where
to being or what to share when you disciple a new believer start
with this the GROWTH Acronym.. We need to grow in the
grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ not just
on Sunday but daily.
